DCX Lin. Power Supply
Jan Didden made a few modifications to the DCX2496 which were applauded by numerous DIY-ers around te world.
We are happy to present his solution for the noisy switch mode powersupply of the DCX2496.
As usual his design for a drop-in replacement comes with a few well thought throug features.
- Drop-in. Yes, it fits in the small space available!
- As this design uses an external EI core "wall wart" or AC adapter there is no mains voltage anymore in the DCX2496!
- Also the wideband interference problems associated with toroidal transformers are avoided this way.
- There is a second custom designed EI-core transformer used to provide the centre tapped 18V.
- Good quality secundary side mains filtering.
The result? :-)
The kit we offer contains all the parts needed until the last alu-plates, screw and washer. Separate to be ordered is a 11.5V/20W "wall wart"/ AC adapter EU style 230VAC.
Customers outside the EU have to use a "wall wart" suitable in their country. We do have a tip for this part. These transformers are often used for halogen lighting which is powered by a 12V/20W AC adapter (a real transformer, NOT an electronic one). These AC adapters are completly sealed and are connected to the halogen light with a long detachable cord. So idealy suited for our application. If you use a seperate transformer do not be tempted to use a very large one, 20 Watts is fine.
